The Black Abbey in Kilkenny

Here is some information about “The Black Abbey”.
The Black Abbey is dedicated to the holy trinity. It was founded for the order of St.Dominic by William Marshall.

In the 16th century the black abbey was used sometimes as a courthouse but later fell into ruins. The Dominican order regained possession in the early 19th century and restored the nave and transept for divine workshop.
The 13th century stone coffins and slabs at the entrance were unearthed during restoration.
The 15th century alabaster statue of the holy trinity was found hidden in a wall.

My conclusion: The Back Abbey is not only a old monument, it’s a very nice and interesting place where you can learn a lot of things about the old Irish catholic society, and you can enjoy with the beautiful views of the village. I think that the most incredible part of the black abbey were the colored windows which showing different parts of the Holy Bible.
